The Dutch-Indian Escompto-Maatschappij was founded in 1857 in Batavia , nowadays Jakarta, by Paulus Tiedeman jr. And Carel Wiggers van Kerchem . The Escompto-Maatschappij was, after the Nederlandsche Handel-Maatschappij and Nederlandsch-Indische Handelsbank, the third largest banking company in the Dutch East Indies .

The management board of the Escompto-Maatschappij was legally dedicated to the company Tiedeman & van Kerchem , where both founders of the bank were partners. At the end of 1901, the general meeting of shareholders decided to give the bank its own management, separate from Tiedeman & van Kerchem. Jan Dinger, who ran the bank from Tiedeman & van Kerchem at the end of the nineteenth century, left the company and formed with EA Zeilinga, Azn. the first independent management of the Escompto Society.

In 1949 the name was changed to Escomptobank NV. In 1960 the Indonesian part of the bank was nationalized in the Bank Dagang Negara (merged with the Mandiri Bank ). The Dutch part has been absorbed by Nedesco Bank and the Dutch Overseas Bank. The Dutch Overseas Bank was merged in 1969 with the banks R. Mees & Zoonen (from 1720) and Hope & Co (from 1734) in the Dutch bank Mees & Hope .

From 1910 to 1960, the Dutch head office was located at Keizersgracht 575 in Amsterdam , where the Garantibank is now located.
