The Tap & Barrell was situated at 42
Waingate. This pub opened in the 1790s as The Bull & Mouth, later
renamed The Tap & Spile", before The Tap and Barrel. It closed on the 4th
July 2023, possibly as result of the demolition of Castle Market and ongoing
archaeological and development work. |

In June 2026 Sheffield Community Media, the
city's community radio and TV operation, purchased the derelict pub, with
the support of social investment lender, The Key Fund, to turn it into a
live arts and community media centre. They are now seeking further funds
from a community shares issue to refurbish the bar and performance spaces.
The property is situated at the corner of Waingate and Castlegate and is
referred to by either address. |
