Borough Hotel

Borough Hotel, Middlesbrough

Date of photo: 1977

The Borough Hotel was situated at 97 Marton Road.

The pub, open from 1867, was known subsequently as The Malt Shovel, Shippleys, and Touchdown. It last closed as Doctor Browns in March 2015 and re-opened at the end of July 2015 and was popular as a live music venue. It closed again in 2023, and following a sale, an application was made in 2025 to convert to the Pitch! Sports Bar. However, that change didn't happen - Pitch! opened in other premises in Exchange Square. However, a tenancy agreement for Doctor Brown's was reached in July 2026. Still empty in August 2026, Dr B's was the subject of a suspected arson attack on 19 August.
