The George & Dragon, a 17th century coaching inn, closed in May 2025 and was sold, together with a 4-bedroom house on the property for £300k in December. There is no indication that the new owners intended to re-open the property as a pub. However, the house has now been put up for sale through auction despite being the subject of a "106 Agreement" issued in 1996 by Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority that the occupant should work in the George & Dragon, a fact which has not been included in the sale details. The Aysgarth community is currently in the process of trying to register the pub as an asset of Community value.
