I recall a 1970s pub crawl to Dorchester. Bus
from Oxford first pint in the (long gone) Plough, then a walk through the
village, eventually arriving at the last pub The Chequers. Here we spotted
an old bar billiards table and decided to have a game. The landlady informed
us we would need to buy a sixpence to use the table. The asking price was
50p which we happily paid, I have to admit after six pubs my play was not
league standard! Fortunately, we only had to walk back to the Fleur De Lys
to get the bus home. The Chequers swing sign is still in place. |
