The Hatchet was situated on the corner of High Street and Stowhill. This grade-II listed pub closed in 2016.
 
Now reopened.

Listed building details:
House, now Public House. c.1830, with earlier mid-late C18 wing to rear left. coursed chalk and sarsen rubble with brick quoins and dressings, all colour-washed in white, right side and rear walls in imitation stone render; Welsh slate roof; brick stacks. Double-depth plan. 2-storeys, 3-window range. Central C20 door in moulded wood architrave with carved brackets to flat hood over. Segmental brick arches to 8-pane horned sashes. Hipped roof; left end stack and rear lateral stack. Earlier mid-late C18 wing to rear left has roughcast walling, old tiled roof, brick stack; 2-storey, 2-window range of C20 casements, flat hood over door to right; large ridge stack.
