I was a pupil at the nearby Vyners School in 1970s. At the age of 17 four of us decided to go to a school disco one cold frosty evening in November 1977. A visit to a local pub for pre-disco refreshment seemed a good idea! We chose The Abrook... Of the four of us, the oldest looking was sent to the bar for 4 pints of Double Diamond! After the second round, shivering in the frosty beer garden, the landlord came out. "Alright lads?" "Fine thanks" we replied. Pints were drained and off we wobbled, heads spinning from the minute amounts of alcohol consumed. I still remember it was 24p a pint back then...
