This two storey public house dates from the late 18th century [this should probably be late 19th century - see below]. The front is extensively decorated, including a crest with a castle, lions and an inscription reading 'P & R Phipps, Brewers'.
This Victorian public house has a façade of brick and terracotta dating to 1871. The terracotta has 'a detail of robust gaiety' and is from Blashfield's works. J. M. Blashfield may have designed it.
