Duke Of York

Duke Of York, Boston

Date of photo: 1970s

The Duke Of York was situated at 7 Lincoln Lane. This pub has now been demolished with a block of flats built on the site.

My maternal Grandma Lizzie Fowler worked here as a 14 year old servant in the 1880s. Her 6 year old sister Susannah lodged in the pub and her mother and new husband lived in a caravan parked in the pub yard.

From Lincolnshire Heritage:
A late 18th or early 19th century two storey public house constructed of brick with a steeply-pitched gabled pantile roof. A projecting public house frontage was added to the ground floor of the front, or south, elevation at some point between 1887 and 1903. The public house was demolished in 2019 and replaced with a block of 18 supported living flats.

Joy Pexton 1974/1981 We were landlords.
Dale Elsom 2014/2016 I was last Landlord/Tenant of the pub before it was sold by Bateman's Brewery to Asif Iqbal of Peterborough. Who then sold it to a private Housing Charity to what it is now. I made it into a viable business, with award winning drinks and food. Also turned it into one of the best live music venues in the area, and live sports venue etc.
