The Red Lion was situated on
Salford Road. This pub closed on 26 April 2026. Part of Greene King's
"Hungry Horse" group, and dating back to 1841, with a rebuild in 1905, the
building served as a Mail House before becoming a pub. It had previously
served as a regular meeting point for the miners of Hulton Colliery, of
which No 3 pit "The Pretoria" suffered a disaster 21 December 1910, leading
to 344 deaths, the last bodies of which were not recovered until 14 February
1911. |
