The Royal Oak was situated on the Great North Road. This pub was demolished in 1996 when the A1 was converted into the A1(M).

As a pub it was favoured as an overnight stop for lorry drivers. The food was very good and hearty and reasonably priced. There was even a shower available for the truckers.
