Black Dog, Havant

The Black Dog was situated at 51 West Street. This grade-II listed building was known as The Courthouse from 1996 to closure in 2002, then used as a restaurant. It has now been converted to flats.
I used to go there on Thursdays from Southsea to the folk club. Musicians I saw there definitely included: Shep Woolley (who may have been the organiser), Mike Harding, Hamish Imlach. Maybe Richard Digance, Bert Jansch, Tony Rose. I must have been 20-40 times, so are many others I saw but can’t remember. Somewhat surprisingly Mike and Richard are still performing. I even went to Richard’s public 80th birthday party near Salisbury a couple of years ago. Richard still smokes! It was a Gales pub. I drank HSB even though only 16-18 years old. It’s good to be 5’ 11.5” from 13.
