Red Post Inn

Red Post Inn, Launcells

The Red Post Inn closed in April 2024. This pub was attached to a camping/caravaning holiday park which remains open. It had origins back to 1531, however, the original pub became a house and what was a stable block became the Red Post Inn, in 1975. In 1694 the original inn was commandeered by the Roundheads during the Civil War and in the 18thC and 19thC was frequented by smugglers and wreckers, some of whom ended their days on the Red Post gallows close by. It is possible that Daphne du Maurier stayed in the former Red Post, and that it was the basis for her novel "Jamaica Inn".
