The Millstone was lost within living memory. It
stood at 112 Lancashire Hill and was first mentioned in 1853. The beer house
got its name from a traditional industry of the area – there was a flour
mill just over the road, and up to the 1800s there was a windmill nearby.
The pub disappeared in 1967 as part of the post-war redevelopment of that
part of town, but amongst the housing developments of the 1960s/70s the
milling heritage of Lancashire Hill lives on, in the name ‘Stonemill
Terrace’. |
