The Millstone

The Millstone was situated at 112 Lancashire Hill.

The Millstone was lost within living memory. It stood at 112 Lancashire Hill and was first mentioned in 1853. The beer house got its name from a traditional industry of the area – there was a flour mill just over the road, and up to the 1800s there was a windmill nearby. The pub disappeared in 1967 as part of the post-war redevelopment of that part of town, but amongst the housing developments of the 1960s/70s the milling heritage of Lancashire Hill lives on, in the name ‘Stonemill Terrace’.
