The Pike & Eel was situated at 110 Water Street,
closing in 2008. Latterly known as The Penny Ferry it was demolished in
2014. In April 2017, the 5 luxury homes built on the site of this former pub
appeared in the news after vandals daubed graffiti over them - in Latin. |

From Cambridgeshire Heritage: |
|
The site of the former Public House, The
Penny Ferry (formerly named the Pike & Eel) as illustrated on the 1st
edition OS (1885). The buildings were demolished in 2014 prior to
residential development. An archaeological evaluation of the site revealed
modern made ground deposits and a preserved 17th-18th century buried soil. |

Review from tantallon.org.uk: |
Excellent riverside location. You
can see Midsummer Common, and fog, and cows, and people going past in eights
and sculls.
The pub itself has been recently redone with rafters and words painted on
the rafters. It does fairly standard and filling pub food for about a fiver
a main course. In December 2002 a Christmas lunch here was
accompanied by an unexplained karaoke session.

Relief Manager for only 9 days. It
was the flag ship of Greene King at that particular time I cannot
believe it has been flattened. I became manager of The Spread Eagle in
Bury St Edmund's a short time later. |
