The White Horse was situated on Church
Lane. This was both a pub and the village bakery. The pub side of the
business ceased trading in 1916. It had been purchased by Francis Tyringham
Bernard of Nether Winchendon House and his wife, Evelyn Bernard, took
exception to having to pass groups of drinking men on her way to church on
Sundays whilst her huband, Colonel Bernard, was away on service during World
War I. It is now a private dwelling. |
