The Granby was situated at 120 London Road. This pub was once part-owned by Terry Venables, the England football manager.

This pub is now in use as a nightclub.

Built in the 1750s, I think, & originally named the Gallows Tavern, as the Reading public gallows was at the road junction (just outside town) by which the pub was built. Renamed the Marquis of Granby before very long, as were other pubs after the 7 Years War. Still called the Marquis of Granby when I moved to Reading in the 1980s, when it was a somewhat run-down local. Renamed Hattons a few years later, & gained bouncers & fights. Said to have been bought by Terry Venables. Suffered a fire (Easter 1989 IIRC), & after repair & refurbishment re-opened as the Granby Tavern. After a while it got a rainbow sign, a notice saying "Entry at rear" on the closed door which had previously opened onto the narrow pavement at the front, & a name shortened to The Granby.. In 2017 it became an ice cream parlour, & now it's changed to burgers & desserts
