The Hope Inn was situated at 16 High Street. This pub has now been demolished and replaced with a row of terraced houses called Hope Terrace.

Tollesbury, that charming, half-forgotten, out of the way Essex village of small boat sailors, fishermen, farmers and bird watchers, has long needed a good hotel, where one could dine, sleep and lunch in modern comfort. Now it has one. Ind Coope, the brewers, and the present tenants, Mr and Mrs W Gibbons, have spent a lot of money on turning The Hope Inn into a thoroughly comfortable, beautifully decorated, small hotel, with a good wine list, an excellent menu at reasonable prices and accommodation. It fulfils, as they say, a long-felt need - but Teddy boys and steel guitars are not welcome. This is for those with good taste and a short purse. Telephone: Tollesbury 238
